Design of the Google Pixel 7
OnLeaks’ renders of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro show two familiar phones. Although the design is identical to that of the Pixel 6, there are some minor variances. What we want to see in the Google Pixel 7
We’re not going to let the lack of Pixel 7 rumours stop us from making our own wish list. We can only hope that Google is listening to feedback for its upcoming phone. The screen specifications of the regular Pixel 7 model are another possible area for development. The Pixel 6 Pro has 120Hz, whereas the regular Pixel 6 only has 90Hz. That’s an improvement over the 60Hz that smartphones used to offer, but given that phones cheaper than the Pixel 6 can offer 120Hz — like the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G or the Redmi Note 10 Pro — we’d like to see Google follow suit. Increasing the Pixel 6’s FHD resolution to QHD, like the Pro does, would be nice, but not as significant. One of our TG writers, who recently purchased a Pixel 6 Pro, expressed his desire for Google to drop the curved display in favour of a flat one in the Pixel 7 Pro. Google had never used a curved display before the Pixel 6 Pro, so if enough Pixel 6 Pro consumers complain, this design choice may be dropped. The only difficulty would be ergonomics, as the huge 6.8-inch handset display has curved edges that assist users to interact with it.
Another camera on the Pixel 6’s base model
With only two rear cameras, Google has perhaps underserved the Pixel 6. It’s the same as the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4, as well as the base iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 small, but it’s still disappointing given that some premium phones now have up to four cameras, including a depth sensor (such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra). That will become increasingly important as 5G networks stretch out across the United States, the United Kingdom, and beyond unless you can rely on consistent and fast Wi-Fi connections wherever you go. The batteries in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have a capacity of 4,614 mAh and 5,000 mAh, respectively, so they don’t appear to be overly little. Instead, Google should presumably concentrate on maximising the power available within the cells.
Quicker charging
Faster charging is something that every phone should strive for. And while Google made progress with the Pixel 6. More work is required to make it a true rival. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro can charge at up to 30W cable and 23W wireless. After years of using 18W charging. However, despite its high charging wattage. The Pixel 6 only reached 29 per cent full after half an hour of charging on a third-party 30W charger in our tests. (There isn’t one included with the Pixel 6). That’s not very quick, especially when you consider phones like the OnePlus 9 series. Which can charge to almost full capacity in under half an hour. It’s possible that if you use a Google-branded charger. The Pixel 6 may charge much faster, but it’s currently painfully slow. Google may improve the wattage of the Pixel 7 charger. Or use a twin-cell battery like the OnePlus 9 to allow for faster charging at the same power.
A Notification Slider
The alert slider is a crucial feature for iPhone users (and to a lesser extent, OnePlus users). It’s a quick and easy way to enable or disable notification sounds without having to unlock the phone or even turn it on. We’ve never seen an alert slider on a Pixel phone before, and given that Apple and OnePlus phones are the only ones that use it, it’s unlikely Google will change its mind. However, we remain certain that this would be a fantastic addition to the Pixel 7.
