This jailbreak method is compatible with all devices that can run iOS 9, including the iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6s as well as iPads. That means that you can’t jailbreak iOS 9.1 yet. The good news is that you can easily go back to 9.0.2 (details to follow) but the bad news is that you’ll likely lose all your data unless you’ve kept a backup from an older iOS version because backups are not backwards compatible.
Downgrading to iOS 9
If you have installed the latest iOS version and would like to jailbreak your iPhone, you can go back to version 9.0.2 by following these steps: The process takes up to 15 minutes to complete and after that your iPhone will be ready to run the jailbreak process. Keep in mind that your jailbroken iPhone will remain jailbroken until you upgrade it to the latest version of iOS. In the step-by-step instructions below, we’ll show you exactly how to fully unblock your iPhone. The process can also work for iPads with iOS 9, so if you have an older version of iPad, you may want to jailbreak it to unlock functions such as Split View, ever-ready system gestures, and many more.
1. Backup Your Data
You must back up the data on your iOS device before performing the jailbreak so you don’t end up causing any damage or losing your important photos, videos, and other files. In order to do this, head to Settings, then tap iCloud, and then Backup. On the Backup screen, select the option ‘Back Up Now’ and make sure you stay connected to a stable wireless connection in order to complete the backup successfully.
2. Download Software
Pangu are a team of Chinese developers specialising in iOS tools and tutorials. Go to the official Pangu iOS 9 Jailbreak Tool page and download the system-specific Pangu iOS 9 jailbreak tool to your Mac or Windows PC – this is the software application you’ll use to jailbreak your iPhone.
3. Pre-Jailbreak Preparations
You now need to prepare your iPhone for the jailbreak process using these three simple steps.
4. Start iPhone 5/6/6s Jailbreak
Now that your iPhone is ready, plug it into your Mac or Windows PC using the USB cable. When your computer recognises your iPhone, you should see two new icons on your iPhone – Pangu and WWDC. On your computer, open the Pangu application in administrator mode by right-clicking on the Pangu icon and selecting the “Run as Administrator” option. Pangu will then open and recognise your device. When this happens, click Start and then click Already Backup when asked – this option appears just in case you forgot to secure your files earlier. The whole jailbreak process takes around 10 minutes.
5. Final Steps
After a short while Pangu will reboot your phone and ask you to put your iPhone back into Airplane mode. Once you do that, the software will continue for a few minutes before asking you to open the Pangu app on your iPhone. Tap the Pangu icon on your home screen and allow it access to your photos. When your iPhone reboots one more time it will be fully unlocked. One other app you should see on your iPhone’s home screen is an icon for Cydia. Cydia is the biggest apps, games, and modifications repository for jailbroken iOS devices. You’ll be happy to hear that the owners of Cydia have prepared the newest version of Cydia Substrate ready for customising iOS 9 and making all the apps that used to require MobileSubstrate compatible with your iPhone. Remember to disable Airplane mode before accessing Cydia. Got a better way to jailbreak an iPhone with iOS 9? Share your story in the comments!
